Buying the right home is always a top priority. And finding the best neighborhoods in San Diego involves several factors. For many home buyers, the decision of where to buy real estate in San Diego is based largely upon financial considerations. Many people consider La Jolla, Del Mar, and Solana Beach to be the best neighborhoods in San Diego. And although we would all love to live in a house near the beach with a view of the ocean, the economics of supply and demand keep beachfront homes in San Diego out of reach of most of us. But there are plenty of safe and affordable homes in San Diego, with good schools and beautiful surroundings. Aside from price, there are a number of other factors to consider when buying real estate in San Diego. Driving distances and commuting times are often a top priority. Driving from Del Mar homes to jobs in Downtown San Diego takes about 30 minutes. Although Solana Beach is adjacent to North Del Mar, the drive from Solana Beach to Downtown may be 45 minutes or an hour. And La Jolla is South of Del Mar, but traffic in and out of La Jolla can add another 15 minutes to the drive. So it is usually a longer commute Downtown from La Jolla than from further North Del Mar or Carmel Valley! Traffic on I-5, particularly the merge with I-805, can make driving times from North County San Diego homes in Solana Beach, Encinitas, and Carlsbad particularly difficult. The weather is a big reason that people move to San Diego and are willing to pay expensive prices for homes in the area. But many people don’t realize that San Diego neighborhoods vary a lot in temperature. Coastal zones stay much cooler throughout the year and downright cold in the winter, while inland San Diego neighborhoods remain warmer throughout the year and can really heat up during the summer. You may prefer wearing jackets in Del Mar and La Jolla during the Summer, while others prefer to live in homes in Poway or Scripps Ranch where the sun shines most of the year.
